How to use lithium battery properly for electric bicycle?

Lithium-ion batteries have different charging and discharging characteristics and performance parameters than nickel-metal hydride batteries, and the use and maintenance of lithium batteries for electric bicycles are in fact not very different from ordinary lithium batteries.


1. Timeliness of charging.

  • The battery is generally charged at the factory in a semi-charged state. When riding for the first time, it is best to fill the battery, one because self-discharge will reduce the amount of lithium battery charge, and the other can activate the active material in it.
  • Each time you ride, do not exhaust the battery power, because over-discharge is very harmful to the lithium battery. Long-term over-discharge will reduce the battery life by 3 times. At least, when there is a low battery prompt in electric bike riding, stop riding decisively and charge the lithium battery.


2. Timeliness of charging.

  • Li-ion battery is effective any time charging, even if there is still 50% power before charging. This is because, unlike NiMH battery, the latter has memory effect while Li-ion battery does not. So far, excluding nickel-metal hydride batteries, other lithium batteries do not have a memory effect, you can charge as you go, but it should be noted that lithium batteries can not be over-discharged, excessive discharge will cause irreversible capacity loss. When the machine reminds the power is low when you have to start charging immediately.
  • Never overcharge, when the charge completion indicator light, to stop charging.


3. Charge to compensate for self-discharge.

If the battery is not used for a long time, the battery should be removed from the instrument and stored in a dry and cool place, and to be charged once in 60 to 90 days, so as not to be stored for too long, the battery is low due to self-discharge, resulting in irreversible capacity loss, because the best storage state of lithium batteries is semi-electric storage (i.e., stored between 40% and 60% of the nominal capacity of the battery), we know that the maximum voltage of lithium batteries We know that the maximum voltage of lithium batteries is 4.2V, therefore, the best storage voltage is between 3.8V and 3.9V, when the capacity is basically half.


4. Original charging equipment.

Try to use the original lithium battery charger charging, the original charger supporting strong performance, charging multiplier moderate, now there are some fast charging pile, it is recommended that you can not use more, once or twice a year is justifiable. Over-current charging is also more harmful to the internal structure of the battery.


5. The temperature environment when stored.

Polymer battery temperature environment is wide, -20 ℃ ~ 45 ℃, but in fact the most suitable temperature is room temperature. From the perspective of "aging", the temperature may be the main reason for the gradual decline in the capacity of lithium batteries.


6. Strictly observe the cautions in the manual.

When the lithium battery is idle, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place, avoid high temperature and humidity, avoid riding in rainy days, even if riding, it should be well protected, and be careful to prevent the lithium battery from water. Do not knock, pinch, pedal, modify, sunbathe the battery, do not place the battery in microwave, high pressure and other environments.
